Educator Library Cards

Eligibility:

Educators (teachers, teaching assistants, administrators, daycare providers) working in schools and daycares in the city of Milan and in our contract areas of York Township/Milan Area Schools, Pittsfield Township/Milan Area Schools, and Augusta Township are eligible for an Educator Library Card.   Educators in a school district that is eligible for educator/classroom cards from another public library will not be eligible for an educator card from our library.

How to apply:

Educators can fill out the Educator Card application online here or in person at the library.  They will also show photo ID  and proof of current employment in an educational entity (school, preschool, or daycare).

Purpose:

The goal of Educator Cards is to allow teachers and daycare providers to check out books and other library materials to support learning in their classrooms. It also allows educators to separate their professional and personal library items.   Only items to be used in or for the classroom may be checked out on Educator Cards. Personal items should be checked out on a personal card.  (Educators in Milan are eligible for a free personal card, regardless of residency if they are employed full-time in Milan.  See our library card page here for details.)

Circulation parameters:

  • Educator Cards are valid from August 15 through June 30.  All Educator Cards will expire on June 30 and may be renewed beginning on August 15.  Photo ID and proof of current employment is required for card renewals.
  • A maximum of 50 items may be checked out at one time.
  • Length of checkout, renewal time, and renewal limits are the same as for personal cards.
  • Educator Cards will have a seven-day grace period before fines are assigned.  If items are not returned or renewed within the seven-day grace period, fines will be applied from the first late day and will continue to accrue until the items are returned or renewed.
  • If an item is lost or damaged, the cardholder will be responsible for the replacement cost and a processing fee.
  • Educator Cards will have the same parameters for checking out eBooks, digital audiobooks, and digital magazines as personal cards.
  • Items from MeLCat may not be requested on an Educator Card.  They may only be requested on personal library cards.
