What is hoopla?
hoopla is a service provided by the Milan Public Library to our library card holders. You can borrow and then instantly download or stream dynamic content including eBooks, audiobooks, comics, magazines, music, movies, and TV. hoopla content is accessed via the hoopla website, or hoopla's Android or iOS mobile apps. Easy to sign up and use and no waiting for items!
How do I sign up?
So easy! Go to www.hoopladigital.com. You'll need to create a new account, and during that process you'll be asked to specify your library, enter your library card number, a valid email address and to set up a password. You can also sign up via the Android or iOS app.
How do I "borrow" items?
Once you create an account and use your email and password that you’ve set up to log into the hoopla website or set up the hoopla app (see below, also easy!) you'll see the instructions for borrowing content.
How do I borrow and download or stream items on my tablet or smartphone?
You'll need to install the app for your device. You will find the "hoopla Digital" app in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Can I download / borrow as many items as I want?
Our subscription with hoopla allows you to borrow up to 5 items per month. That number will re-set at the beginning of each calendar month.
How long can I keep items, and how are they returned?
Movies/TV (most): 72 hours (3 days) from checkout time (some publishers limit to 2 days).
Music albums: 7 days from checkout time.
eBooks, Audiobooks, comics: 21 days from checkout time.
(Returns are managed automatically by the Hoopla website and / or mobile app.)
Is there a Kids Mode available?
Yes! hoopla Kids Mode is a multi-format, digital media experience designed especially for kids (up to age 12). All of the content – movies, TV shows, music, audiobooks, eBooks, and comics – has been curated and brought together in this one family-friendly place.
(Kids Mode is a feature that should be used with parental guidance. There are different age ranges using this feature and the titles available range from G-General Audiences to PG – Parental Guidance Suggested. Parents or guardians are expected to decide whether a specific title is appropriate for their child.)
How do I activate Kids Mode?
hoopla Kids Mode is very simple to activate. Once you are logged into your account, just go into your settings in the upper right. Then click/tap on the Kids Mode toggle switch, and you're all set. (Logging out and back into your account switches Kids Mode off by default.)
